Lithuania’s Membership in the European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL)

Since 2019, Lithuania has been a member of the European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL), one of the world’s leading organizations for molecular biology research. Founded in 1974, EMBL brings together 29 member states, operates across six European cities (Heidelberg, Hamburg, Grenoble, Hinxton, Rome, and Barcelona), and hosts the only intergovernmental research center in Europe dedicated exclusively to the life sciences.

What does membership offer Lithuania?
Membership opens up broad opportunities for Lithuanian scientists, students, and research institutions to:

Coordination of membership activities
Lithuania is represented in EMBL activities by a consortium comprising:
Vilnius University, Vytautas Magnus University, Lithuanian University of Health Sciences, and Kaunas University of Technology.

The Vilnius University Life Sciences Center is responsible for coordinating and organizing Lithuania’s EMBL membership activities.
