About
The Laboratory of Bioorganic Compounds Chemistry is a non-academic unit of the Institute of Biochemistry. Since its establishment, the laboratory has been working in the experimental site located at Mokslininkų g. 12. In addition to the laboratory facilities, it has an organic synthesis workshop and an autoclave - a separate unit adapted for high-pressure synthesis work.
The Bioorganic Compounds Chemistry Laboratory's research interests include the synthesis of amino acids and their derivatives, the development of methods and technologies for the synthesis of macrocyclic and linear polyethers, and the study of the synthesis, structure, and properties of various heterocyclic compounds. Since 2014, the laboratory's primary objective has been to conduct experimental development and applied research in organic chemistry, as well as to provide outsourced synthesis research services. This research is carried out in cooperation with Lithuanian and foreign business entities that are interested in applying the results of fundamental research in practice. Cooperation partners are Ramidus AB (Sweden), Synthon Chemicals GmbH (Germany), Polypure AS (Norway), Bapeks SIA (Latvia), UAB Thermofisher Scientific Baltics (Lithuania), UAB Elymus (Lithuania), UAB Biotecha (Lithuania), UAB Ekorama (Lithuania), UAB Sanobiotec, UAB Vilniaus Ventos Puslaidininkiai (Lithuania).
The current activities of the laboratory are aligned with a key strategic direction: to serve as a link between research and production and the market, spanning from pilot to industrial-scale production.
Our equipment, including glass, enamelled, and stainless steel reactors (10-1600 L) and catalytic hydrotreaters (0.2-10 L), allows us to study chemical processes over a wide range of volumes.
We offer a wide range of services in the field of organic synthesis for scientists and businesses:
- Development and optimisation of technologies for the synthesis of chemical compounds.
- Testing of laboratory technologies for chemical processes developed by our partners for a wide range of product volumes, from the order of grams to hundreds of kilograms.
- Investigation of synthesis methods for various classes of organic compounds, development and testing of multi-step synthesis schemes.
- Custom synthesis of a variety of chemicals for scientific and commercial applications from grams to hundreds of kilograms, depending on the structure of the compounds and the customer's requirements.
The list of compounds synthesised in the laboratory includes over 200 compounds for scientific and commercial applications:
- O, N, and S-heterocyclic compounds
- Thiols, thioethers, and thioamides
- Stereoisomeric derivatives of disubstituted cyclohexane
- Aromatic carboxylic acids
- Amino acid derivatives
- Mono- and diphenyl substituted cyclic polyethers
- Aminonaphthalenesulfoamides
- Monodisperse derivatives of polyethylene glycols
- Enzyme cofactors
