Research professor Dr. Edita Kriukienė and her team are developing methods that would help to better diagnose epigenetic disorders in human diseases, for example, when studying one of the deadliest children's cancers: neuroblastoma. "There are a lot of achievements in the treatment of neuroblastoma, but children continue to die," says the researcher at the Vilnius University Life Sciences Center (VU LSC).

The first kick-off meeting of the PANERIS project took place at the Vilnius University Life Sciences Center (VU LSC). PANERIS is the Horizon WIDERA Pathways for Synergies project that aims to address issues like barriers to collaboration, funding gaps, undeveloped skills, and misaligned policies by ensuring wider access to European neuroscience infrastructure, aligning R&I strategies, policies, and funding programs across institutions, regions, and nations.

Dr. Vilmantė Žitkutė has joined the ranks of PhDs at the Vilnius University Life Sciences Center (VU LSC). After defending her thesis "Cellular Uptake and Accumulation Studies of Functionalized Upconverting Nanoparticles", she was awarded a PhD in biophysics. Congratulations!

The Didactics Center – BioEduLab – has been opened at the VU Life Sciences Center (LSC), where teachers will have the opportunity to improve their theoretical knowledge and hands-on training skills.

We think of viruses as villains who can infect us and cause serious problems. However, not all viruses are the same. Yeast viruses are broadly found in nature, and they are studied at the VU Life Sciences Center (VU LSC) by biochemist Prof. Saulius Serva's team. "Yeast viruses are a different matter. [...] From an evolutionary point of view, such viruses should have disappeared long ago. [...] But if something exists in nature, it obviously deserves its very own place", says the professor about his main research interest.

On April 18, Dassault Systèmes senior vice president John Kitchingman and Daniel Pero (Nordic and Baltic Partner sales manager senior specialist, Dassault Systèmes) and colleagues Donatas Staniulis (Executive Director of LithuaniaBIO), Gintaras Vilda (CEO of Gamybos inovacijų slėnis  (Manufacturing Innovation Valley), Dr. Vladimir Popov (CEO of CC IN RE) and Arūnas Urbšys (Projects Development Director of CC IN RE) visited the Life Sciences Center (LSC).

On April 15, the President of the Board of the European Innovation Council (EIC) Michiel Scheffer, Directorate-General for Research and Innovation (RTD) at the EIC Stéphane Ouaki visited the Life Sciences Center (LSC) together with their colleagues Vilma Radvilaite (EIC Project Adviser, EISMEA) and Donata Pečiukėnienė (NCP Unit, EIC & EIE NCP Programme Coordinator, RCL).

Research into redox-active drugs, their analogs, and precursors is ongoing in the laboratory of Research Professor Narimantas Čėnas. "These are often not the kind of preparations that we get in the pharmacy, but their research allows us to predict new possibilities for the application of drugs or their side effects," says the professor.

N. Čėnas' scientific activity has been going on for almost 45 years, and during that time he managed to carry out many interesting kinds of research - the researcher currently often collaborates with colleagues not only from Lithuania but also from France, New Zealand, Japan, and Uruguay.
