The first competition of life sciences programming, BioHackathon, in Lithuania was held at Vilnius University Life Sciences Center (VU LSC) on the first weekend of August. It was organized by Vilnius-Lithuania iGEM team. The event gathered seven teams from Lithuania and three from Sweden, Finland and the Netherlands.

Rapolas Žilionis, PhD student at Vilnius University Life Sciences Center (VU LSC) is the co-first author of the paper "A single-cell atlas of the airway epithelium reveals the CFTR-rich pulmonary ionocyte".
International scientific conference “CRISPR 2018”, dedicated to the revolutionary genome editing technology, started on June 20th in Vilnius, Lithuania. The conference is organised by Vilnius University (VU) Life Sciences Center professor Virginijus Šikšnys, North Carolina University professor Robert Barrangou, and Philippe Horarth, a scientist working in “DuPont”.
