Aims of course

To provide students with knowledge about the structure and reactivity of biologically important organic compounds and to relate it to the biological activity of these molecules. The main a focus is the structure of organic compounds  and their activity, the main classes of bioorganic compounds are reviewed.

Main topics

  1. Clasification and structure of organic compounds, structure of atoms and nature of chemical bond, classification of organic reactions.
  2. Structures, reactivity and functions of the main cell components: proteins, carbohydrates, nucleic acids and lipids.
  3. Structures and functions of other molecules important for biology (alkaloids, vitamins, antibiotics).
