We are a cortical neural networks laboratory, part of the Department of Neurobiology and Biophysics at the Life Sciences Center of Vilnius University.
We use animal models to understand the intricacies of the brain mechanisms. Current research themes include:
- Impulsive behaviour and the neural mechanisms that control impulsivity
- The role of motor activity in the function of the cerebral cortex
- Brain rhythms, their mechanisms and alterations in disease (e.g. schizophrenia, epilepsy)
In the lab we:
- Observe animal behaviour through associative learning and other behavioural tests (Y-maze, Open Field, Novel Object Recognition, etc.)
- Record brain activity by measuring electrical potentials (ECoG, neuropixel, patch-clamp)
- Manipulate brain activity using genetic (optogenetics, DREADDs) and pharmacological methods
