Vilnius-Lithuania iGEM team won a Gold medal at prestigious iGEM competition (International Genetically Engineered Machine Competition) and was nominated among the best teams in four categories: best foundational advance, best presentation, best new composite part and best Wiki page.

The competition took place in Boston, USA on 31 October - 4 November. Undergraduate Vilnius-Lithuania iGEM team includes 14 students of Vilnius University (VU), the majority of them are studying at VU Life Sciences Center.

As stated by the team representatives, the competition was intense with more than 300 teams from all around the world competing for the awards. However, the honour of representing Lithuania worldwide was the main inspiration for hard and continuous work of the whole team.

Vilnius iGEM team participates in the iGEM competition since 2015. In 2015, Lithuanians won Gold medals and were nominated among TOP-5 teams in the best foundational advance track. Team of 2016 won Gold medals and was nominated among TOP-5 teams in the track of medicine. In 2017, Vilnius-Lithuania iGEM team won the Grand Prize of iGEM competition. The team of 2018 won Bronze medals and was nominated among TOP-5 teams in the best foundational advance and mathematical modelling tracks.
