The Central Electoral Commission informs that new elections to the Senate of Vilnius University have started.
In accordance with the Regulations for the Election of the Members of the Senate of Vilnius University (wording of the Resolution of the Senate of Vilnius University No. SPN-4 of 22 February 2022), the Senate of Vilnius University (hereinafter referred to as the Senate) will be composed of 46 members for the new term of office. All members of the new Senate will be elected by the academic units of the new Senate on the basis of the lists of candidates nominated by these academic units:

Representatives of the social sciences, humanities and arts shall be elected in the following academic stem units (representation rate: 2 representatives from each academic stem unit):

Faculty of Economics and Business Administration;

  • Faculty of Philology;
  • Faculty of Philosophy;
  • Faculty of History;
  • Faculty of Kaunas;
  • Faculty of Communication;
  • Institute of International Relations and Political Science;
  • Faculty of Law.

    Sui generis academic stem units (representation rate of 1 representative from each academic stem unit):
  • Šiauliai Academy;
  • Business School.

Representatives from the fields of medicine and health, natural sciences and technology shall be elected in the following academic stem units (representation rate: 4 representatives per academic stem unit, except for the Faculty of Chemistry and Geosciences and the Faculty of Mathematics and Informatics, which shall elect 3 representatives):

  • Faculty of Chemistry and Geosciences;
  • the Faculty of Physics;
  • the Centre for Life Sciences;
  • Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science;
  • Faculty of Medicine.

The elections shall be held in accordance with the Statutes of Vilnius University and the description of the procedure for the election of members of the Senate approved by the Senate. Elections in the stem units will be conducted by the unit election commissions.
Please be informed that the nomination of candidates for participation in these elections is open from 21 March to 8 April, 15:00. In accordance with point 14 of the Senate Election Procedures, the following shall be entitled to nominate candidates for election to the Senate: each Elector, by nominating his/her own candidate or the candidate of another Elector. The nomination of another Elector may be made only with his/her consent.

In accordance with paragraphs 16 and 17 of the Rules of Procedure for the Election of Members of the Senate, candidates for election to the Senate shall be nominated in a particular Division and shall be included on the list of candidates for election to the Senate of that Division within the deadline for nomination of candidates for election to the Senate set by the Central Electoral Commission, and shall be submitted in writing to the Divisional Electoral Commission.

The Senate elections in the Units are scheduled for 16 May at 9:00 a.m. - 17 May at 5:00 p.m. Voting will take place in the trunk Units, in the premises designated by the Unit Commissions of these Units (which will be announced on the Vilnius University website).

Information about the elections will be published in the "Senate News" section of the Vilnius University website and on the websites of the academic units of the stem.

Early voting for the Senate elections will take place in the academic units from 9.00 a.m. on 10 May to 5.00 p.m. on 11 May. For more information see: p. 29 of the description of the procedure for the election of members of the Vilnius University Senate.

According to point 15 of the Procedure for the Election of Members of the Senate, the Central Election Commission shall announce the beginning and the end of the nomination process on the University's website and on the websites of the Units' Election Commissions.
