Short Description: Varioskan LUX is a modern multifunctional microplate reader designed for absorbance, fluorescence, and luminescence measurements. The instrument supports a wide range of experimental conditions and enables both endpoint and kinetic assays, making it suitable for biochemical, cell biology, and pharmaceutical research.
Produser: Thermofisher
Equipment Information:
Functions:
- Measures absorbance, fluorescence, and luminescence signals from samples in microplates
- Supports time-resolved fluorescence (TRF) and other advanced detection modes
- Enables both endpoint and kinetic measurements
- Allows automatic wavelength selection using monochromators
- Offers temperature control, shaking, and optional automated dispensing
Capabilities:
- High sensitivity detection suitable for low-signal applications
- Broad wavelength range for UV/VIS and fluorescence studies
- Compatible with multiple plate formats (e.g., 96- and 384-well)
- Controlled and analyzed via SkanIt™ software
- Expandable workflow automation options
Usage:
Varioskan LUX is widely used in:
- Biochemical research
- Protein quantification (BCA, Bradford, Lowry)
- Enzyme assays and reaction monitoring
- Cell biology
- Cell viability, proliferation, apoptosis assays
- Pharmaceutical development
- High-throughput screening
- Drug efficacy and mechanism studies
- Immunoassays
- ELISA, AlphaScreen, and related applications
- Gene expression analysis
- Fluorescent and luminescent reporter assays
- Operating Principle
- The sample in each microplate well is illuminated by a controlled light source.
- Monochromators select the exact wavelength for excitation or detection.
- Depending on the assay:
- The instrument measures light absorbed,
- Fluorescence emitted, or
- Luminescent signal produced by the sample.
- The detected optical signal is converted into an electrical output, recorded, and processed by the SkanIt™ software, which provides data visualization and quantitative analysis.
