An exceptional event will take place at the Vilnius University Life Sciences Center, Auditorium R106, to mark the 50th anniversary of modern biotechnology in Lithuania.
The guest of honor – Nobel Prize laureate and one of the most prominent contemporary molecular biologists, Sir Richard J. Roberts. In his lecture “The Path to the Nobel Prize,” he will share his professional journey: from childhood dreams of becoming a detective or a professional billiard player – to groundbreaking discoveries that led to the identification of RNA splicing, the rise of bioinformatics, and new breakthroughs in biotechnology.
Following the lecture, at 12 p.m. in the same auditorium, a panel discussion “Breakthroughs in Biotechnology: How Do They Emerge and How Do They Change Our Lives?” will take place. Joining Sir Richard J. Roberts in the discussion will be VU LSC scientists Prof. Virginijus Šikšnys and Prof. Linas Mažutis, Founder of the Future Biomedicine Foundation Prof. Habil. Dr. Arvydas Janulaitis, and Vice-Minister of Health Danielius Naumovas.
