On 24 August, the Vilnius University Life Sciences Center (VU LSC) welcomed a 24-member delegation from Nigeria’s National Assembly Service Commission.
The guests were welcomed by VU LSC Director Dr Arvydas Lubys, Advisor to the Director for International Relations Prof. Dr Eglė Lastauskienė, Deputy Director for Business Cooperation and Infrastructure Julius Gagilas, Deputy Director for Administration and General Affairs Laura Daučiūnienė, and Head of Marketing and Communications Kristina Černiauskienė.
During the meeting, the delegation was introduced to the LSC’s study programmes and research areas, its international academic environment, and Lithuania’s life sciences ecosystem. Particular attention was given to cooperation between science and business, the application of research results, the start-up ecosystem, as well as the competence centre currently being developed at the LSC and its infrastructure.
The discussion also focused on potential areas for future cooperation. Delegation members were interested in Lithuania’s experience in developing research infrastructure, digitalising processes, and strengthening links between academia, business, and public institutions. Opportunities for cooperation on international research projects, including initiatives focused on Africa, as well as student exchanges were also discussed.
The delegation later visited Dr Marius Dagys’ laboratory, where they were introduced to biosensors and their potential applications in health monitoring and the development of personalised medicine. The visit concluded at the Vilnius University Zoological Museum, the oldest museum of its kind in Lithuania, whose collections contain thousands of specimens representing a wide variety of invertebrate and vertebrate species.
