On 31 March, the Vilnius University Life Sciences Center welcomed Dr. Leonard Foster, Director of the Life Sciences Institute at the University of British Columbia.

Dr. Foster is a leading expert in proteomics, overseeing a core proteomics facility and conducting research on host-pathogen interactions. During his visit, he met with VU LSC representatives, including Deputy Director for Business and Infrastructure, Dr. Julius Gagilas; Head of Marketing and Communications, Kristina Černiauskienė; and Head of the Proteomics Center at the Institute of Biochemistry, Dr. Mindaugas Valius.

As part of the visit, Dr. Foster was introduced to the center’s research environment through a tour of several laboratories, and at the laboratory of Prof. Linas Mažutis, PhD student Denis Baronas, and Dr. Simonas Juzėnas presented their work on semi-permeable capsule technologies for single-cell research. Prof. Rolandas Meškys presented his research on microbial enzymes and their practical applications, while Dr. Mindaugas Valius showcased the Proteomics Center's infrastructure and ongoing projects.

The visit provided an opportunity to exchange expertise and identify shared research interests. Initial discussions highlighted several potential areas for collaboration, raising hopes that the visit could lead to future partnerships between researchers at VU Life Sciences Center and the University of British Columbia.
