On the occasion of the Day of the Restoration of the State of Lithuania, the President of the Republic of Lithuania, Gitanas Nausėda, presented state awards for merits to Lithuania and for promoting its name worldwide.
According to the President, each of those honoured today has contributed to strengthening the Lithuanian state through their unique experience, knowledge, and efforts, leaving an indelible mark not only on the pages of history but also in people’s hearts.
“State awards, which you will receive today, serve as a reminder that belief in one’s own strength, healthy determination, and many years of consistent effort ultimately help move mountains. Through your example, you are laying the groundwork for Lithuania’s further progress – for breakthroughs in our science, technology, and innovation, for closer ties with friendly nations, and for the dynamic development of education, culture, sport, healthcare, transport, energy, justice, national defence, and many other areas of public life,” the President said.
In total, 38 individuals who have rendered outstanding service to the Republic of Lithuania were honoured on the occasion of 16 February.
Biochemist, professor, and doctor of sciences Virginijus Šikšnys was awarded the Grand Cross of the Commander of the Order of the Grand Duke Gediminas of Lithuania for his significant contribution to the development of Lithuania’s biotechnology and life sciences, for his outstanding academic leadership, and for promoting Lithuania’s name internationally.
