On 30 January, the Vilnius University Life Sciences Center (VU LSC) welcomed Professor Bart Spee from Utrecht University for a visit focused on strengthening institutional ties and exploring opportunities for closer academic and research collaboration.
Prof. Spee was accompanied by Assoc. Prof. Karolis Ažukaitis, Vice-Dean for Research and Innovation at the VU Faculty of Medicine, and Donatas Staniulis. Together, they met with representatives of the VU Life Sciences Center administration and research community. The VU LSC delegation included Director Dr. Arvydas Lubys; Advisor for International Relations Prof. Eglė Lastauskienė; Head of the Doctoral School Prof. Daiva Baltriukienė; Prof. Urtė Neniškytė, Principal Investigator of the Neuroscience Research Group at the EMBL Partnership Institute; Prof. Linas Mažutis, Group Leader of Single-Cell Semipermeable Capsule Research; and Kristina Černiauskienė, Head of Marketing and Communications.
As Vilnius University continues to expand its collaboration network with Utrecht University, the visit provided an opportunity to exchange perspectives on potential joint initiatives, researcher mobility, and the development of long-term partnerships.
Following the meeting, Prof. Spee and accompanying guests toured several VU LSC research facilities. They visited the laboratories of Prof. Urtė Neniškytė and Prof. Linas Mažutis. The visit concluded at the Cryo-Electron Microscopy (CryoEM) facility, where Dr. Giedrius Sasnauskas presented the center’s capabilities and ongoing structural biology research.
