Vilnius University Life Sciences Center (VU LSC) neuroscientist Prof. Urtė Neniškytė has been elected to the Board of the FENS-Kavli Network. This is a significant international recognition, reflecting both the scientist’s leadership in the field of neuroscience and the increasing visibility of Lithuanian science in Europe.
The FENS-Kavli Network of Excellence (FKNE) was established in 2014 and brings together outstanding European neuroscientists with the aim of strengthening scientific excellence, promoting mentorship, contributing to science policy, and ensuring that the voices of neuroscientists from different European regions, institutions, and career stages are heard within the international scientific community. Prof. Neniškytė became a member of FKNE in 2023 and remains the only scientist from Lithuania to have been invited to join this network. Her election to the Board marks another significant milestone in her international scientific career.
According to Prof. Neniškytė, membership on the Board provides an opportunity to represent regional interests in a broader European context: “My election to the Board allows me to represent Lithuania and the interests of neuroscientists from the Baltic region. As many FKNE activities focus on mentorship, science policy, and promoting diversity, it is crucial that our voice is heard, since we often face different challenges than those encountered by researchers from Western or Northern European countries, who make up the majority of FKNE members.”
The following two years on the Board of the FENS-Kavli Network, the scientist notes, are expected to be particularly dynamic and engaging, building on the significant achievements reached during the network’s first decade for the European neuroscience community.
