The beginning of September is always special at the Saulėtekis student campus – the university streets and courtyards fill with bustle, lecture halls come alive, and a new wave of young people appears, ready to embark on their own academic journey. Already during the summer, newcomers had the chance to feel what it means to be part of the Vilnius University Life Sciences Center (LSC) community – at the traditional camp organized by the Student Representation, first-year students tackled their first challenges and, with humor, noise, and student spirit, became part of the LSC family. But only today – on September 1 – did everything become official.

In the main auditorium, students, lecturers, and staff gathered to hear greetings from the leaders and scientists of VU LSC. Speakers wished them courage, curiosity, and creativity – qualities that in life sciences are no less important than knowledge. “We are keeping the bar high – this year again we have managed to bring together true geniuses,” said with a smile Vice-Dean for Studies Dr. Ingrida Prigodina Lukošienė, adding that among the new students are not only talented Lithuanian graduates but also a group of international youth who chose to tie their academic path with VU LSC. According to her, such diversity brings even more creative energy and international experience to the community, becoming an integral part of studies.

But the celebration did not end there. As every year, the university community moved to Gediminas Avenue, where a colorful procession set off from the Parliament towards Vilnius University’s Grand Courtyard. It was a moment when first-year students also touched the academic tradition – by taking the solemn oath, they became full members of Vilnius University.

Even before the festive excitement subsided, on September 3 LSC awaits a special meeting with Nobel laureate Sir Richard John Roberts. His lecture and discussion with Lithuanian scientists about breakthroughs in biotechnology will be a vivid proof that the world of life sciences is transforming not only scientists’ laboratories but also all our lives.

This year, the Life Sciences Center began the academic year in a lively and inspiring way. And this can mean only one thing – a year full of discoveries, shared experiences, and stories to remember as the start of a new and exciting journey lies ahead.
