On June 26, the Vilnius University Life Sciences Center (VU LSC) welcomed the President of Sorbonne University (France), one of the oldest and most prestigious universities in the world – Prof. Nathalie Drach-Temam – along with a delegation of experts representing various fields, including politics, economics, literature, computer science, and myology.

The guests were welcomed by VU LSC Director Dr. Arvydas Lubys, Advisor for International Partnerships Prof. Eglė Lastauskienė, and VU LSC researchers Prof. Virginijus Šikšnys and Prof. Linas Mažutis.

During the meeting, representatives of both institutions discussed the activities and research priorities of the Life Sciences Center, explored possibilities for academic cooperation, and considered opportunities for student, PhD student, and researcher exchanges. The guests appreciated the strong emphasis on hands-on learning at the LSC, noting the significant amount of practical work students engage in throughout their studies. The conversation also touched on the role of universities in startup creation and development and the application of artificial intelligence in the life sciences and other scientific fields.

The Sorbonne delegation toured several GMC laboratories and was introduced to the research being carried out by Prof. Virginijus Šikšnys (nucleic acid-protein interactions), Prof. Linas Mažutis (single-cell studies), Dr. Marius Dagys (biosensor development), and Dr. Giedrė Tamulaitienė (structural biology and CryoEM infrastructure).

During their visit to Lithuania, the Sorbonne University delegation also met with the Rector of Vilnius University, Prof. Rimvydas Petrauskas, and visited other university departments.
