On May 27th, the Vilnius University Life Sciences Center (VU LSC) welcomed a delegation from the United Kingdom, including Prof. Andrew James Boulton (Manchester University, University of Miami), Prof. Mike Griffiths (CEO, Advanced Oxygen Therapy Inc), Prof. Sudhesh Kumar (President, Association for Innovation, Research and Technology Organisations; Vice-President (Health) at Warwick University), Prof. Neil Reeves (Lancaster University), and Prof. Loretta Vileikyte (Lancaster University). The guests were welcomed by VU LSC Director Dr. Arvydas Lubys, Prof. Urtė Neniškytė (Group Leader at the VU LSC–EMBL Partnership Institute and Member of the VU Council), Prof. Daiva Baltriukienė (Head of the Doctoral School), and Julius Gagilas (Deputy Director for Business Collaboration and Infrastructure).

During the visit discussions were centered on strengthening scientific cooperation, particularly in the field of biomedical research. The guests were introduced to VU LSC’s research infrastructure, ongoing projects, and strategic directions in life sciences. As part of the program, they toured LSC laboratories, including a presentation by Dr. Giedrė Tamulaitienė highlighting the Center’s technological capabilities, such as its Cryo-EM facility.

A substantial portion of the meeting discussions was dedicated to PhD education, internationalization of study programs, and diverse funding opportunities. Both institutions expressed strong interest in pursuing collaborative research grants and shared the mutual benefits such cooperation could offer. Special attention was given to identifying overlapping research interests that could serve as the foundation for future collaborative projects between VU LSC research groups and Lancaster University scientists. The visit reflected a shared vision for advancing the internationalization of science.
