This year's Baltic Assembly Science Prize for outstanding achievements in the field of biomedical sciences - the discovery of the gene editing tool CRISPR-Cas9 - has been awarded to Prof. Virginijus Šikšnys.


The Baltic Assembly Prize is awarded for literary, artistic and scientific achievements on the basis of a joint jury decision. The awards - a statuette, a certificate signed by the BA President and Vice-Presidents, and a cash prize - are presented at a special award ceremony.
The Baltic Assembly is an international cooperation organisation of the parliaments of Lithuania, Estonia and Latvia, founded three decades ago (8 November 1991). The Assembly's session is its supreme body. This year, Lithuania holds the presidency of the Baltic Assembly.
