International scientific conference “CRISPR 2018”, dedicated to the revolutionary genome editing technology, started on June 20th in Vilnius, Lithuania. The conference is organised by Vilnius University (VU) Life Sciences Center professor Virginijus Šikšnys, North Carolina University professor Robert Barrangou, and Philippe Horarth, a scientist working in “DuPont”.

Six prominent professors of Vilnius University (VU) will be given a special status for their outstanding achievements from the beginning of a new academic year. Three of these six professors work at VU Life Sciences Center (LSC): Saulius Klimašauskas, Rolandas Meškys and Virginijus Šikšnys.

Professor Charles H. Matthews from the University of Cincinnati (the USA) will deliver a public lecture "The Art & Science of Entrepreneurship: Past, Present, and Future" on 15 of June at 1 pm (room R101).

Vilnius University Life Sciences Center (VU LSC) professor Virginijus Šikšnys was awarded with the prestigious Kavli prize for his discovery of the CRISPR-Cas9, a revolutionary tool for DNA editing. The prize, which includes 1 million dollars, is rewarded every two years.

A group of researchers from Vilnius University Life Sciences Center (VU LSC), Institute of Biotechnology, together with colleagues from Norway published a paper in the world’s first and longest-running scientific periodical „Philosophical Transactions of the Royal Society B“ in the end of April.
