Six prominent professors of Vilnius University (VU) will be given a special status for their outstanding achievements from the beginning of a new academic year. Three of these six professors work at VU Life Sciences Center (LSC): Saulius Klimašauskas, Rolandas Meškys and Virginijus Šikšnys.

VU rector prof. Artūras Žukauskas thinks that these well-known scientists are undoubtedly worthy such recognition.

“I am honored to give this status to these six prominent researchers who can be called a real elite of our country. I hope that their further research will inspire other scientists to follow their good example”, VU rector says.

The candidates were chosen not only by internal experts from VU, but also by using 79 foreign scientists’ evaluation expressed in grades.

The special status of a Distinguished Professor was approved by VU Senate in 2017. This status can be given for VU scientists who demonstrate outstanding internationally and nationally recognized achievements, who help to improve a specific field of science or study areas and who form their own “schools” of their research fields.
