A group of researchers from Vilnius University Life Sciences Center (VU LSC), Institute of Biotechnology, together with colleagues from Norway published a paper in the world’s first and longest-running scientific periodical „Philosophical Transactions of the Royal Society B“ in the end of April.
Contributors to the article from VU LSC: dr. Miglė Tomkuvienė, dr. Rūta Gerasimaitė, Audronė Rukšėnaitė, Giedrė Urbanavičiūtė ir prof. Saulius Klimašauskas. Researchers in their paper "Excision of the Doubly Methylated Base N4,5-dimethylcytosine from DNA by Escherichia coli Nei and Fpg Proteins" presented studies of products of erroneous epigenetic modification and enzymes that are involved in correcting such lessons in DNA. Publications in this journal are by invitation only, which was extended to Prof. S. Klimašauskas as a speaker at the Royal Society meeting "Writers, Readers and Erasers" held last year at the Kavli Royal Society Centre in Chicheley Hall, Buckinghamshire, England.
VU LSC scientists are the first biochemists of Lithuania to have been published in a journal "Philosophical Transactions" that began life in 1665. The journal finally bowed to the inevitable and split into two series, ‘A’ and ‘B’, for the physical and biological sciences respectively in 1887.
