The VU Life Sciences Center partnership with the European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL)
In June 2019, Lithuania became 27th member state of the European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL). To intensify institutional synergies, on 8 September, 2020 Edith Heard, EMBL Director General, signed an agreement with Vilnius University (VU) on the establishment of a VU LSC–EMBL Partnership for Genome Editing Technologies at the VU Life Sciences Center.
EMBL is the world's leading laboratory for life sciences research, with five divisions in the United Kingdom, Germany, Spain, France and Italy. EMBL is headquartered in Heidelberg, Germany. The EMBL centers bring together state-of-the-art life science research equipment and infrastructure for internationally competitive research and innovation.
After Lithuania became a member of this organization, our country is represented in this scientific organization by VU LSC. This demonstrates the high level of international confidence in LSC’s activities and the highest level of evaluation of its researchers ’achievements
The Partnership builds on scientific and technological complementarity in the field of targeted genome modification. It will include the establishment within the VU LSC of a partner unit based on the successful EMBL operational model, which will employ six high-level groups of international researchers whose scientific focus will be the development and application of novel genome editing tools and technologies to improve understanding of fundamental biological processes and disease mechanisms.
The Partnership will intensify existing links, inspire scientific collaborations, facilitate knowledge exchange and enable the sharing of scientific services and scientific training. It will open even more opportunities for Lithuania to implement competitive research and innovations on the international arena.
We invite you to take advantage of new oportunities.
