PROGRAMME DESCRIPTION

  • The objective
 

The goal of this programme is to educate specialists for independent work in research and education areas of modern life sciences and technologies. Having completed Molecular Biology programme, a graduate has deep knowledge in Molecular Biology, and is able to analyses and evaluate scientific and practical data, generate and implement scientific novelties in areas of modern life sciences, independently solve problems related to molecular biology, biotechnology and biomedicine.

A graduate can work at research and medical institutions, biotechnological and pharmaceutical companies as well as at educational institutions.

The graduate has possibility to continue scientific career in doctoral (PhD) studies in Biochemistry, Biophysics, Genetics, Microbiology, Biology.

KEY LEARNING OUTCOMES

The holder of Master’s degree has deep knowledge in the cell structure and function of organisms of all domains of life at the molecular level, uses molecular biology methods to investigate cells and their components; applies them in research and practical work in life science associated areas; independently identifies and solves molecular biology-related problems and their complexity in biotechnology, biomedicine, biopharmacy, environmental safety and other areas, has ability to work in the interdisciplinary areas and integrate knowledge of different scientific fields. The graduate has acquired the ability to work independently and in the team in the research, education and business institutions, translate knowledge and concepts to the professionals and non-professionals; identify scientific and professional interests in the context of modern life sciences; ability to continuously learn, improve and update their knowledge and skills.

GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS

Studies are finished by defending of Final Master Degree Project.

EXAMINATION AND ASSESSMENT REGULATIONS

The main form of evaluation is an examination. However, course units may be evaluated by the pass/fail evaluation as well. Every course unit is concluded with either a written or written-oral examination or pass/fail evaluation. Student's knowledge and general performance during the exam are evaluated using grading scale from 1(very poor) to 10 (excellent), or by pass or fail evaluation in the cases when pass/fail evaluation is foreseen as a final evaluation of the course unit.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

Academic entry qualification overview

Applicants for Molecular Biology master programme should have a Bachelor or equivalent degree in one of these fields: Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Cell Biology, Genetics, Microbiology, Biotechnology.

English language

English Language requirements: applicant has  to present document  providing the level not lower than B2 (following the common European Framework of Reference Languages (CEFR), or TOEFL score 75/IELTS score 6

APPLICATION AND SELECTION REQUIREMENTS

The grade for admission (K) is calculated by the following formula:

K= 0,4V+0,3E + 0,3D

E = Motivation letter ;

V = Average of the grades of the following subjects or their close equivalents (in bachelor or equivalent degree diploma): Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Cell Biology, Genetics ;

D = Grade of bachelor thesis in molecular biology or related sciences.
